The Board

Board 1He is really into this sort of thing. I tend to be the more cynical one, but he is sincere in everything he does. He loves being inspired by things and planning things for the future. Sometimes I have fun with that and deliberately do things to annoy him.

Board 2Okay dinosaurs can’t go on the ‘Vision/Inspiration board’ apparently. But I like dinosaurs!

I drew one while he was at work and stuck it on the board:

DinosaurHehehe.

Seriously though, it is one of the things I love about him. He has big dreams for the future and actually takes steps to achieve them. I get really frustrated at the type of person who is a “dreamer” and talks big but then never do anything about achieving their goals. I know my husband is not that type. He has already achieved a lot already, so I know that his inspiration/vision board is something that does really help him. It really motivates him.

But for me, maybe I do want dinosaurs in my future!

It has been interesting to see how it changes. The U.S., Australia, South Korea, U.K., and Canada seem to stay at the top, but there have been some bigger changes lately like Brazil jumping into the top ten. I think India has moved up a lot too. Indonesian and Malaysian fans have been around since the beginning, as have fans from the small country of Brunei 🙂

I’m guessing with the internet restrictions in China, any Chinese fans are probably represented by Hong Kong? Let me know.

Anyway, a big shout out to everyone in these countries. Thank you so much for reading the blog. I’m so excited about how many people are now reading my blog (and it’s not even 1 year old yet). We have some exciting things coming up this year. We will start making videos this year and will be putting them on our Youtube channel. I’ll be interviewed next week on the Korean radio program 1013 Main Street. I think for everyone not living in Korea they can tune in through the website or app. I’ll let you know more next week.

April 1st will be the one year anniversary of this blog. Maybe I should have a big giveaway? What do you think?

Cheese?

Mindy asks:

What is your favorite Korean meal and what is his favorite Australian meal?

Let’s start with my favorite Korean meal. I like a lot of Korean food. I really like samgyupsal (grilled pork belly) especially with kimchi. I do tend to order bibimbap a lot because I love all the vegetables. (Luckily I often take photos of meals I order so I can show some).

Bibimbap

I also really like japchae and yukgaejang. And I love lots of side dishes!

JapchaeWhile I do like a lot of Korean food I can still be picky. My husband orders this a lot but I refuse to eat it.

Pig IntestinesYeah… pig intestines soup.

My husband is a lot less picky than me, especially when it comes to Australian food. The only major thing he doesn’t like is lamb, and I swear that’s just psychological, not to do with taste at all. He doesn’t have a particular favorite Aussie meal, he just likes almost everything. Something he has taken a real liking to here is cheese though. He said he hated cheese when in Korea, and having seen the cheese available in Korea, I can understand why. But here in Australia there is such a huge range of good quality cheeses so he has realised cheese is delicious. He also likes eating crackers with dips too, something not really done in Korea.

Over Christmas when we were with my family we had a lot of cheese and crackers. Now usually we set them out on the table for everyone to have for morning or afternoon tea, but my husband would just get them for himself and sit at the table stuffing his mouth. (I also drew my siblings in the background).

cheese and crackers

This is an accurate representation of our Christmas.

In particular he likes water crackers with Mersey Valley Cheese. (Seriously, Mersey Valley, we love your cheeses, they are the best).

Internet Cafe

korean internet cafeOh gamers and your bad language…

When learning another language you usually end up learning the bad words first (or even if you don’t want to, it’s what people teach you) and for some reason they stick in your head. So when we went to a Korean internet cafe yesterday, I realised I knew what everyone was saying because it was all just swear words!

There are a few internet cafes in Sydney that are exactly like the ones in Korea. They are full of Korean guys gaming. The employee had to check that one guy was still alive at the one we went to yesterday. This guy was slumped over in his chair and didn’t move when the employee shock him. He did eventually wake up, but there was that moment where we were like, “Is he dead?” I think he’d been gaming all day and night.

We have internet at home of course but my husband will download the dramas, movies and TV shows he likes to watch from an internet cafe.

Uncool

It was this song:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSXx7-EceBA

No surprise that it was a Eurovision winning song.

One of the many things that made me fall in love with my husband was his completely unpretentious taste in music. Perhaps it was something I was more conscious of because I have dated guys who were very critical of anyone who liked music they thought wasn’t cool enough and honestly that just becomes a bit depressing. My husband has a very broad and unashamed taste in music but what excites him the most seems to be 1980’s power ballads. His body starts twitching because he wants to “groove” to the music and then pretty soon he is singing along dramatically. It makes me smile because you can’t help but enjoy it too. He will listen to, and like, music that may be deemed a bit cooler but the next song on his playlist may be something like One Direction, and he doesn’t care.

There are times when I have had to say, “Oh geez, not this song.” But for all the times I’m annoyed there are more times where I’m thankful of how nonjudgmental he is and how he can take pleasure in the cheesy things in life.

For example, right now as I’m writing this post he has his earphones in and is singing to himself, “Last Christmas I gave you my heart…”
