Relationships with Koreans- friendships and romance

Deadpan

Deadpan

I was thinking about food…

Sometimes when he is being romantic and spontaneous I just make my face as blank as possible to see how much he will actually do to get a reaction from me. I thought I won this time but he walked away completely happy… so maybe no one won.

Revenge

Revenge

He got me good. He had the wig because people were given them at an event at his workplace.

You know when you realise it’s not someone to not be scared of, but your body is slow at realising that? Like right away my brain is like, “Oh it’s just him” but my body was like “AHHHHHH SCARY!” It took me a little while to calm down.

So at the moment he is winning the scaring game.

Valentine’s Day

Chocolates

I’m eating those chocolates right now. Yum yum yum. He carefully picked out the flavours I like at the gourmet chocolate shop. I accidentally saw him buying them and got excited but I hid so he wouldn’t know that I saw him.

We always celebrate Valentine’s Day the Australian/American way. In Korea Valentine’s Day is for girls to give chocolate to guys. Then a month later on White Day guys will give candy to girls. I much prefer Valentine’s Day here, but Korean girls do get a lot of other special days as well.

We don’t do anything over the top but it’s nice to get some flowers and chocolates.

Countryside Guy…

The countryside guy

Isn’t it funny the type of comments people will make about you when they barely know anything about you at all? Mostly the response to the news article about us was very positive but my sister-in-law, who has been keeping an eye on everything online, warned my husband to not read all the comments because some were just criticizing him. Basically because he is from the countryside, so must be a stupid loser right? So how did he get a cool glamorous Australian wife? It’s not fair! Hahaha. The assumption that I’m some great prize is pretty ridiculous right?

Actually I’m from the countryside too! Just in Australia instead. I avoid telling people my home town because often people laugh. So actually, we are pretty perfect for each other. Both from the countryside.

We expected those kinds of comments so it doesn’t bother us. Actually my family and  friends think my husband is a pretty good catch. My parents love him and think he is great for me. One time when I was taking to my Mum about how nice and sweet he is, she added, “And he doesn’t put up with your crap either.” Thanks Mum! What she meant was that my husband can deal with my artistic temperament. He doesn’t let me walk all over him either.

Anyway, that’s what is important for a good relationship, you don’t want an uneven relationship where someone loves the other more or one feels like the other is out of their league. The best relationships are when both people think they got a pretty good deal.

Wrist Grab

Wrist Grab

Yes, the Korean guy wrist grab thing again. It doesn’t just happen in Korean dramas, it happens in real life too. It does annoy me a bit so I grabbed his wrist and dragged him to show him what it’s like but he thwarted me by claiming he likes it! He may be lying…

What do you think?

Bossy

Bossy

I’ve mentioned before about the way he can be ‘grabby’ in a spontaneous burst of affection way. Not all Korean guys are like this, but if you’ve watched enough Korean romantic dramas you know exactly what I’m talking about.

I used to think the female characters in Korean dramas were too easily annoyed and pissed off all the time when the male lead does something but now I can understand that reaction. It can be annoying. My husband will sometimes do it to deliberately annoy me too, but claim he is just being romantic.

I just shoved him off again because I won’t put up with the bossy romantic act. He then cackled to himself, “Haha I think I’m really funny.”
