Weird English

I actually really like it when clothing has very cute English or Konglish and it does make some sense. But when it’s pretty much gibberish it annoys me. Mr Gwon informs me every single time, “Nobody cares.” It’s seen as cool to have English on clothes and it doesn’t have to make sense which is why there ends up being some complete gibberish. People aren’t native English speakers here so don’t care that it makes no sense.

I do get annoyed at the swear words everywhere though. Oh I’m so old and crotchety! But seriously Korea, stop putting the F-word on everything, especially on clothing for younger girls.

My parents-in-law like to send produce from the farm to others, so they allow us to send some to friends in Seoul. However, every time we do it they make us send so much! Last time we sent rice… and it was a 20 kilo bag…

Tired on the bus

We’ve been super busy lately and came back from Seoul last night. We did some filming with Han and Sophie here and then we travelled to Seoul together. For those that don’t follow us on Instagram here are some of the photos.

Unfortunately we didn’t get to do all the filming that we wanted to get done with Han and Sophie. Sophie and I didn’t get to film our videos because of time, illness and family commitments, but we are determined to get them back to Korea this year so we can do more stuff together. They fly back to Sydney tomorrow.

This is quite a long video because there are a lot of things to talk about. Sophie and I will address certain topics more in depth later so now is the time to ask questions!

Everyone has different experiences but Sophie and I made a list of a bunch of things to consider when dating a Korean guy with the intention of marriage.

Dol Celebrations

(Woolies is Woolworths, a major Australian supermarket).

Han and Sophie’s daughter Alice had her first birthday celebrations (돌) on the weekend. It’s a very big thing in Korea! They are a lot of fun but my husband realised how much work they are. They are more like a wedding than actual modern Korean weddings are (way more fun as well).

He was only joking about not doing them for our children, of course we have to. Sophie also pointed out that once we have a baby he is going to think his child is the best in the world and do everything for them! First birthdays are huge events but they are also well catered for. You book the package deal you want and it’s held at a special hall with a buffet and an MC and everything is provided.

I’m sure once we have a baby he is going to think we need to do much more than just buy a supermarket cake!

Why I’m Tired

And that’s why there isn’t a proper comic. I have to work on other stuff today and because I slept later than usual I didn’t have time to make a comic.

It is always a shock to hear loud messages blasted all through the village, especially at 5am. I can’t imagine that happening in Australia because I think Australia has much stricter noise rules.

Seriously…. 5am. I’m assuming the person went and picked up their delivery of fish finally.

I did hear my mother-in-law wake up at that time and didn’t seem worried so I assumed everything was fine and it wasn’t a message saying we were all going to die.
