Korean food and recipes

Seafood Pancake

Luckily the person he wanted to make it wasn’t me.

Anyway that’s his way of “cooking”. My mum heard him trying to convince others in the house to make it and I said his idea of cooking is to buy the ingredients and convince someone else to do it. My mum said, “That’s always my strategy,” because she hates cooking, and my husband said, “Yeah! I learnt it from you!”

He did end up convincing someone else to make seafood pancake for everyone. He loves food but doesn’t like cooking.

I like a lot of Japanese food and try to cook some at home. Since it’s easy enough to get real Japanese ingredients in Sydney I try to buy them. Some Korean ingredients can be very similar to Japanese ones so my husband thinks I should just use the Korean ones.

He doesn’t outright call me a traitor, but I kinda sense it in his exasperated voice!

Also:

YOU CAN WATCH US ON EBS HERE! Sorry there isn’t English subtitles but I do speak in English in it.

(If there is a pop up window just click okay and then click play again, the whole show should play).

Vlog 4

We went out with friends the other night and filmed it. Here is a glimpse of what people do in Jinju!

It’s really normal for these guys to go to many restaurants in one night. I get pretty full by the end of it! We only went to two places this time and didn’t go to norebang this time. People had to work the next day and everyone is getting older. Mr Gwon sure can’t drink how he did when he was younger. He managed to stick with just beer. I don’t drink very much at all, so I’m not drunk, I’m just really tired! I think it makes me even more tired when everyone is speaking Korean because I don’t understand enough. My brain is trying to process everything but I can only understand some things.

I’m really enjoying all the food though!

Hopefully this is a good glimpse of average guys in the Jinju area. Mr Gwon’s friend’s are pretty funny.

Too Much Food

Too Much Food

Mr Gwon always get fat when we come to Korea! He just can’t help himself when it comes to Korean food. We are really encouraged to eat when in Korea too, friends and family are always urging us to eat.

He is a little worried about the meet up on Saturday because he has put on so much weight in the past 2 weeks. He’ll have to hit the gym hard when we get back to Australia.

By the way….. EBS is filming me right now hahaha.

Paris Baguette

Paris Baguette

Paris Baguette and I are not friends. In Australia I’m quite health conscious about bread and prefer grainy bread or wholemeal bread. It’s so different in Korea where bread is usually a sweet dessert thing. I love sweet foods; I just prefer them to be cakes, cookies or chocolate. I want my bread to be savoury.

Other times I’ve been in Korea and have gone into Paris Baguette and in amongst all the sickly sweet stuff I’ve seen garlic bread. That must be savoury right? Wrong. It’s sweet too. Such a disappointment.

Paris Baguette is everywhere though. Even the small town next to Mr Gwon’s hometown has one and there are definitely ones in Jinju. We walked past one a few times in Jinju yesterday and my memories of the garlic bread came back.

Blueberry Juice

Vinegar drink

I knew what he was doing the whole time but only admitted it after because I knew he was doing it because he cares about me. My health is never the best and he is just trying to help. I could tell right away that it wasn’t normal juice though!

He continued the charade and was all like “Yeessss. It’s nice isn’t it?!”

I actually don’t mind those type of drinks anyway, so I drank it without complaining, but it obviously wasn’t real juice!
