Deliberately Awkward

deliberately awkward

Quick comic with just me in it (then a new Mr Gwon Recommends will be up later).

Even being married I can sometimes be like, “Go away couples!” I think maybe a lot of people are feeling that with Valentine’s Day coming up?

I was rewarding myself with bad food the other day because it was quite stressful dealing with website issues. It was amazing having so much traffic but frustrating dealing with the web hosting company who took my site down because of the traffic. So during that time I went and sat by the water to relax. I’m sure it was totally annoying for the couple but I can be deliberately awkward like that. hehe. I really wanted to sit in that place.

Rockpools at Night

Rockpools at Night

This was over Christmas when we stayed in a holiday house near the beach. Whenever we were walking on the beach my husband would ask, “Can we eat it?” for almost everything he saw. My family goes to the beach and enjoys swimming and relaxing, but my husband sees it as an opportunity to find food. His attempt at catching squid was unsuccessful because the ocean was too rough, but we did see others catch a lot a few days earlier, so maybe next time.

We had a really fun time looking in rock pools though, especially at night. The octopus freaked us out. Well, freaked me out. I have this half joking fear that giant octopuses will one day take over the world. This is why I don’t eat baby octopuses in Korean seafood hotpot because when octopuses take over the world I’m going to be like “I didn’t eat your babies! Don’t kill me!” All my friends know my theory and laugh at me. So I was a bit scared when my husband caught the octopus in the bucket. Which a bit out of character for me, I’m not scared of animals and I’m trained as a zoo keeper so I’ve handled plenty of animals. Octopus though…. they are just so smart. This octopus we caught was easily crawling out of the bucket, and when we put it back it changed it’s colour to match the rocks in the rockpool. Freaky.

My husband was sad he couldn’t eat it and we really had to force him to put it back. Even though I’ve explained that you can’t just take everything from the environment, sometimes he thinks with his stomach. We were also lucky that it wasn’t a Blue-ringed Octopus which are deadly.

Anyway, go watch some Youtube videos about octopus and see how smart they are.

Is it?

Is it?GD jealousy again… Of course it would be cool to see GD! I really doubted that he would be in Sydney but this guy had the same build as him and was wearing a hoodie with the same thing GD has for a tattoo and those type of shorts GD wears, so for a second I was like “….maybe?” Yup not him.

Please come to Sydney GD! I really hope he does but since Big Bang never come here I doubt he will.

Cheapskate

cheapHe did then give me more money, he just wanted to annoy me. He is a lot more careful with money than I am and he knows being a cheapskate can annoy me sometimes. We prefer to just use our cards to pay for things BUT a lot of shops near us either don’t allow cards for small amounts or charge a fee. It’s so annoying. The Korean grocery store below our apartment building in particular has a $20 minimum. The other grocery store near us charges a fee if we want to use our savings cards. A lot of restaurants only let you pay with cash. So we are always asking each other “Do you have any cash?”

When I ask him that I mean an amount like $10… not $2. Haha.

Rainy BBQ

My husband really wanted me to make a comic of this.

BBQ Raining

Haha, they had such a bad day. We’ve had very hot and sunny weather in Sydney – except for this one day. Unfortunately they had planned to go to the beach on the rainy day and it wasn’t a close beach, it was one far away. They had travelled all the way there so they didn’t want to let the rain ruin their BBQ. But, actually they were pretty miserable..

My husband said people were staring because they looked ridiculous. Everyone else left but they were still there huddled around the barbeque. The samgyupsal they were cooking got all wet, but they ate it anyway.

Rubber Duck

Sydney Rubber DuckHe may have had a little bit too much soju when he said this. BUT, it’s not the first time he has said something is so cute and then followed up with “I want to kick it.” I haven’t quite worked this one out but I think sometimes the adorableness is too much so he ends up saying something violent in his outburst at the cuteness.

If you are in Sydney, make sure you go see the giant duck while it’s here. It’s so cool. I think technically it’s an art installation or something. I like this type of a art: a giant but adorable duckie floating around Darling Harbour. That’s my kind of art.

Life-jacket

So my uncle took us out in his boat. As soon as my husband gets on the boat:

lifejacketOf course my uncle was joking! And we were on the lake anyway, not out in the ocean. My husband did take the life-jacket off after a while though, because he realised that the only ones wearing life-jackets in other boats were children. Legally life-jackets don’t need to be worn on smaller boats like this and we were in very shallow water anyway. They were just for emergencies.

So he did manage to relax on the boat and have a nice time.

ALSO: HAPPY NEW YEAR! My husband was working so we couldn’t be together but I was with some friends and we watched the Sydney fireworks. Because for Korean age, everyone’s age goes up on New Years, everyone was checking their ages and asking “What age are you now??” Although my international age is 29, my Korean age is 31!!!! Ahh!
